Salary: The hiring range for this position is $67,485 - $116,699. The actual starting salary will depend on qualifications and experience in accordance with the current Senate compensation guidelines.

Telework: This position works on-site in the Minnesota Senate Building and Capitol during the legislative session (January-May). When the legislature is not in session, flexible hybrid options may be available.

Days of Work/Hours: Monday-Friday/8am-4:30pm and irregular hours during the legislative session.

The Producer/Moderator produces and moderates broadcast and web-based public affairs programming on behalf of the Minnesota Senate. This position exists to provide members, staff and the public with credible and timely nonpartisan public information through video and digital content. The Producer/Moderator writes, produces and moderates live and recorded studio and field-based programs and segments featuring state issues, and pending legislation and legislative actions. The Producer/Moderator also produces content for the Senate website and its social media channels.

Job Responsibilities:

Public Affairs Programming: Write, produce, and moderate Senate public affairs programming to enhance public understanding of issues impacting Minnesota's citizens.

On-Camera Moderator/Host: Serve as on-camera moderator and host of Senate television coverage broadcast on the Minnesota Public Television (PBS) network and Senate Media Services webcasts. Produce informative segues between press conferences, Senate committees, Senate floor sessions, and the House of Representatives coverage in both live and recorded formats.

Media Curation: Curate portions of the Senate Media Service’s webpage and social media channels with featured videos, podcasts, and blog posts of Senate committees, press conferences and Senate floor sessions.

Information Gathering: Attend legislative and selected gubernatorial press conferences, budget and economic forecasts, and historical events at the State Capitol or off-site to document and archive events for posterity. Keep Senators, staff, and the general public informed of State Capitol happenings.

Time spent on job responsibilities may vary throughout the year and may be dependent on the Senate session.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in public relations, journalism, marketing, advertising, digital communications, creative writing, or related discipline with two (2) years of demonstrated experience.

OR

Four (4) years of experience in digital media, social media management, communications, broadcast television, vlogging, podcasting, or related field.

  • Ability to regularly lift and carry 25 pounds and occasionally manipulate electronic news gathering equipment (such as camera, tripod, storage bag, and lighting) to efficiently manage field productions.
